Lynne Jewell (Shore)

Lynne Jewell (Shore) won a gold medal in yachting at the Seoul Games in the 470 class.  Lynne’s yachting career spans two coasts. She grew up in California, summered with her grandparents in Plymouth, Massachusetts, starred in sailing as a student at Boston University (Class of 1981), and came to live in Rhode Island in 1985, with her sailing coach and former husband Bill Shore.

A competitive sailor since the age of seven, Lynne was the U. S. Olympic Yachting Committee Athlete of the year and the New York Yacht Club’s Yachtswoman of the Year in 1980, the U. S. Singlehanded National Champion in 1983, the International Yacht Racing Union Champion in 1980 and 1984, and the Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year in 1980 and 1988.  She earned her bachelor’s and masters degrees in the field of science and education from Boston University and Northeastern University.  Lynne trained for a career in the pharmaceutical industry and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design’s interior design program and continues to reside in Rhode Island. She worked in interior design for six years in sales and non-profit management. Lynne is a member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association and the American Society of Interior Designers.
