The Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame was founded in March 1965 to honor the contributions of those whose efforts, in any line of endeavor, have added significantly to the heritage of the State of Rhode Island. Eligible membership may include those who are native born, those whose reputations have been made while residents of the state, and those who have adopted Rhode Island as their permanent home.

The Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame is a partner organization of the Heritage Harbor Museum. Upon the Museum's opening in 2013, inductees' portraits will become part of a permanent Hall of Fame exhibit honoring their accomplishments.

Nominations for future inductees may be submitted, along with biographical sketches and letters of recommendation, to any of the Hall of Fame's directors, via email, or you may make a recommendation in the discussion forum.

Annie Smith Peck (1850 - 1935)
Inducted 2009

Annie Smith Peck was born on October 19, 1850 in a two story house at 865 North Main Street in Providence. She lived with her parents and three brothers in a home that her grandfather had built. Her mother traced the family's roots to Roger Williams the founder of Providence.

Although she was to gain wide-spread fame when she climbed to the top of Mount Huascaran in Peru and other sites around the world, Annie had already made her presence felt wherever she lived and worked whether in the Providence school system or in far away places like Germany and Greece where she excelled in languages and music.  more >
